Dumars possible lucky instead of good?

I am beginning to think that Dumars is an average-to-good GM who got lucky for a little while but is now coming back to earth. He didn't know when he got Ben Wallace that he was getting the cornerstone of his franchise. His draft record in general is poor, but got lucky with Prince. Billups blew up once he signed with the Pistons, so again, that may have been a lucky signing. The lack of depth hasn't been a problem for his teams because of his team's incredible luck in having no injuries.
Great GM's keep making great moves year after year. Dumars needs to start making some great moves or I think he will be judged as an average GM who got lucky for a little while.

You sure about that? Why do you think he asked for Ben instead of any other player to get any kind of compensation for the Grant Hill trade?
Per John Weisbrod, it was Doc Rivers who decided that Ben Wallace was going to be a Piston:
"Sometimes, Doc has a selective memory," Weisbrod said in Orlando. "When given the choice between Ben Wallace and John Amechi, Doc chose John Amechi. Most every personnel move-decision that was made was because Doc was in favor of it, or in many cases, pushing it."
Replied Rivers:"That's not accurate. I wanted to keep Ben Wallace. It's over. There's nothing we can do about it now. People who were around know what went on. I'll leave it at that.
"There's enough blame to go around for all of us."
